It's safe to say the last couple of weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster for us here at BBG. At different times we have all felt all over the place - down, up, anxious, confused - but it is music that always brings us back. So, we wanted to share our favourite musical moments with our readers to help kick those isolation blues.
Whether you're having a catch up on Houseparty or group 'Quiz Night' on Zoom, there's one album we're listening to for a night 'in' (sigh) with friends. After Hours by The Weeknd is that perfect mix of synth and upbeat 80's nostalgia to keep us rolling through 'til Saturday.
Our Fashion Editor Nathan is currently reminiscing of life's finer moments: the joys of a night out and rush of watching a live gig - and Caroline Polachek's 2019 album Pang embodies just that. In the not-so-distant days of freedom, Nathan experienced Polachek's haunting vocals and fabulous cover of The Corrs' 'Breathless' at their last gig: "it was sparkling, magical and literally... just everything. Caroline can do no wrong".
Another BBG favourite this week is Harry Styles' Fine Line. Junior Editor Hedvig is still living and breathing the whole darn album, which is a definitive step forward artistically for everyone's favourite style superstar. It's exactly what we need to keep us on our toes and uplift spirits.
The crisp sounds of WILDES are also on our Spotify repeat list at the moment. Sadly, her London gig was one of the losses to our emptied calendar but we managed to catch her via an Isolation Instagram Live. Her EP Let You Go is a strong contender for late-night soothing sessions.
If you caught last week's Editor's Letter from Cecilie Harris, you'll know that our Editor-in-Chief has been using this time to slow down the mind's chatter. SYML's 2016 EP Hurt For Me is currently on her meditation playlist and track 'Fear of the Water' is a personal favourite.
For Social Media Manager Sophia, the sultry husk of hip-hop artist Kojey Radical has been the antidote to isolation. Kojey's 2019 album Cashmere Tears covers it all: flawless flow, powerful words and a couple of serious grooves.
If nothing else, this is a time to test your musical taste buds, reconnect with old favourites and discover new sounds. We are all loving the excuse to dive headfirst into the various streaming platforms - we hope you are too.
