Any day that begins in a roadside café with no milk and two sugars in a chipped china mug is a good day.
Lacquered gingham tablecloth, knackered panelled walls. Breakfast fit for two kings on the day they decided to skip school. In this short tale of truancy, photographer Emilia Staugaard explores the infinite possibilities of what might happen when you decide to throw it all to the wind. Who knows where you might end up?
This story is just one version.
Drizzle-splattered windows and hand-painted skies – grey like the winter palette that stylist Rasmus Baun Bartram selects for the truants, models Kofi at OD Casting and Ryder at Unique Models. Skipping school and skimming stones, the pair begin their long ambling stretch to nowhere, picking up pieces of each other and setting other parts down along the way – a never-ending quest to discard what no longer serves them.
Today it is this Monday. Blue as can be. But with blueness comes opportunity. If the sea is a shade of blue whose depths cannot be measured, then the potential for the present is as boundless as the planet’s waters. Making playground of their patchwork landscape, and dressed in the armoury of Acne Studios, ZEFFON, and Martine Rose, the day’s obstacles are no match for Kofi and Ryder, the Breakfast Club Boys.
