Between shadows, reflections and straight-up documentation, there is a darkness disconnected from era or trend. Melancholy and beauty race towards old Hollywood and the brilliance of classic photography.
Boys by Girls Fashion Editor David Nolan works with classic tailoring, injecting pop culture references with sailor flares and grandad collars. Red socks, riviera collars and polo-necks are shown at home in the glamour of a gentleman’s ease. The fashion is simultaneously here and within the fabric of yesteryear; from Chaplin to Bowie, to the handsome smiles of the 1950s.
There are steps one can take to distort the lines of past and present. Firstly, look into a mirror. Wet your face and hair, spend at least three minutes combing each strand with exact precision. Calculate each fine on your face, and finally, stare straight into your pupils. Note their dilation; allow any thought to arise, acknowledge it and then go back to your eyes. We are a hallway of self-perception - which you is the real you?
