“Between skins,
still soft as moth’s wings and as fragile,
they are yet to decide
on the light they’ll follow.”
Adolescence, adulthood. The meeting of these stages can be a collision of reality, or sometimes an evaporation of time that goes by unnoticed. In this editorial for our fourtheenth issue, 'The Dreamers'; together with our fashion team, poet Daniel Grimston explores the witching hour; that intangible space of time, when all seems possible behind the glow of a dream.
New York based photographer-duo, Carrol and Jacob, act as impartial eyes to the zeitgeist. Through soft light and fragile gazes, each boy communicates in an unsaid language; like flowers blossoming up towards the sun. This collective of minds, knotted together through a shared context - of time, age and generation - have individual paths to follow. No one dreamer looks the same; no one hand is reaching out for the same utopia.
Stylist Julie Brooke Williams, merges sportswear and classic tailoring. The juxtaposition of clean lines, suiting materials and boyish detailing; from silk neckties to monogrammed Vuitton hiking boots. The story is a capsule of different identities, all meeting in one shared feeling – in that very particular, and confusing period of youth.
What lays ahead for these boys is a pitching field steeped in dirt, uneven in its beauty, with pitfalls and glory along the way. No-one can say what awaits them on the other side; perhaps, nothing will change at all - apart from the minutes and seconds they spent getting there.
