Model Yuki Kawahara at Tomorrow Tokyo
The day’s doors are open. Step beyond the edge of night and await the unknown as it thaws the ice on the new horizon. The sun reigns ahead as the rain falls behind above a long winding road of discovery. Yuki is the architect of his prophecy, sketching his journey on a landscape of highs and lows at a time when the world is truly his canvas.
Which way will the wind blow at the dawn of this new day? Yuki takes you along on his journey within his quiet suburb in Japan, unearthing his inner makeup beneath the filter of society. The autumn air is fragrant, and mustard leaves hang from trees like threads of fraying fabric, ready to shed the old and await the new. Like the fall, Yuki reinvents himself every day with an ensemble of fashionable fits in colours contrasting with the concrete sidewalks. ‘Fashion is essential in my life’ Yuki proclaims, both a suit of armour and a veil to hide behind. His clothing serves as a symbol of the workings of his colourful mind, thrifted from a store nearby, in honour of himself, in homage to his hometown.
Yet the road ahead is unclear, clouded with mist and mystery, what does the future hold? Beyond the suburbs and cities, across borders and oceans, there are plenty of reasons to stay and just as many to stray. The earth is digital, and Yuki is hardwired to surf the waves of the expanding inter-web. By crafting and creating online content, Yuki and his friends fill the gaps in their futures’ by imprinting on our internet history.
Yuki isn’t one to sink beneath the weight of the world, rather he seizes the day’s reins and charges ahead without contemplation. The way to weather the waves, Yuki says, is to simply sail upon them, into the horizon.
