Model Louis Baines at Kate Moss Agency
I think we all found our sanctuary that day.
I first met Louis Baines two years ago when he was photographed for our 12th issue. His first editorial, he kindly reminded me, as we chatted on the train on the way to somewhere south of England for this AW19 fashion cover shoot. Closer to the ocean, yet not quite there. A secret hideout - the kind of hideaway we all need sometimes. Allowing ourselves to escape from time to time is key to our happiness.
The years have served him well, now so confident in front of the camera and his storytelling, that each frame was effortless and fun to capture. He ate all the food the lovely owner of our countryside hideout had kindly put out for him and fully embraced everything the Chantry Farm campsite had to offer; the open fields, conversations with sheep, cheese and cosy huts with stunning views.
Having previously told me about his love of roaming freely in nature as a kid, letting him run free in this space was my way of telling his story of 'glede'. Clearly happy with the surroundings, he was at home and found his sanctuary that day. He couldn't stop smiling. I literally love this kid; so authentic, so full of humour, so honest - fully living in the moment without judgement. Louis pulls at all the strings in me as he openly brought me up to date on what the last two years of modelling had been like for him. The happy moments, times of struggle. His heart is good. In our fifteenth issue, you get to join this visual journey, and perhaps it can serve as a great reminder to visit your own sanctuary the next time you want a breather from it all.
For the full editorial with Louis, you can now experience the full 18-page cover story beyond these brief teasers. Our brand new Autumn Winter '19 issue Glede is available to buy online and in select stores worldwide.
