Lamar Johnson for Issue 15

In symbiosis with photographer Dani Brubaker’s lens, Canadian actor Lamar Johnson masters his body in each of the photographs; every movement and look enforced with a feeling. All of him engaged in this performance, as not an inch of his feels left out. A natural with the camera; a dancer with impressive control over his own physique is revealing himself before us as we browse his pages of the AW19 issue Glede. Stylist Shalev Lavan complements this expression with luxurious fabrics and funky, colourful patterns - allowing Lamar the freedom to move with the wind’s direction whilst emphasising the actor’s emotional state in all of Dani’s frames.

“Let’s create human stories and cast people who embody the essence of the characters, and not have it be about their race. That’s one of the reasons why I’d like to create my own films because I want to tell narratives where it doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, Asian or Indian. It doesn’t matter where you’re from - it’s just about the embodiment of the character”.

Through his pages, Lamar leaves you feeling hopeful and makes the world distinctly smaller with his emphasis on ‘different circumstances but shared experiences’ rhetoric. His gift to the world is his contagious optimism, often passed through his art - film, design or other creative projects.
